The Dog Walk Snake Draft: Adam Sandler

This was such a fun draft to listen to. Over the past few weeks there have been some contention over voting rules and other things and I think they’ve overshadowed the true thing we love most about the draft, and that’s listening to the guys draft. This was an hour plus of Sandler movie quotes and laughing along with the Chicago crew. Every pick made you laugh. The guys laughing made you laugh more. This was a perfect back to get things back on track. SandMan is a legend in the acting world. If you’re a 90s kid you saw the golden age of his movies. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer, Big Daddy. His most recent stuff is garbage but he knows where his bread is buttered and makes movies that cut checks and I will not hate on that. And UnCut Gems was very good. PFT Commenter joins the guys for his second draft. I will never be mad about more PFT content so was happy to see he was hopping on again. Plus who better to draft Sandler stuff than the mans who is making a movie with him.

Now before breaking this down, I do not think there was a bad pick in this draft. I don’t think there could have been. With that being said I do think that makes these kinds of drafts even tougher. I think you need to draft a near perfect team to get the win in a draft where all teams look pretty good after 5 rounds. So although there is no criticisms of any of the picks themselves, I do think there are still things that will separate people and picks that will be better than others. A recap of just pumping tires is lame, but when there 25 awesome picks to listen I calls it as I sees it.

Draft Specifics:

1 Character/1 Villain/1 Love Interest /1 Side Character/1 Prop.

Draft Order:

  1. Carl. 2. Chief. 3. WSD. 4. Eddie. 5. PFT

Round 1

Pick 1: Carl, Billy Madison (Character)

Grade- NUDEY MAGAZINE DAY

It was Billy or Happy coming off the board first. Both are a correct 1.1. They didn’t record the pick selection so I am not sure if Carl chose 1 early on but I would not doubt he did. Spots 1 and 2 are very important in this draft.

Pick 2: Chief, Chubbs Wooden Hand (Prop)

Grade- Its All In The Hips

This is a surprise pick here. I was fully expecting Happy to follow Billy but Chief went out the box. The prop category is deep but that doesn’t mean Chubbs’ hand isn’t first round value. The hand literally has its own storyline throughout the movie.

Pick 3: WSD, Happy Gilmore (Character)

Grade- XL Prize Winnings Check

Dave had to be thrilled to get Happy at 3. If I am drafting from the 3rd spot I am expecting Happy to already be off the board so to get him is a huge win. Billy and Happy are the two clear thoroughbreds to build around.

Pick 4: Eddie, Shooter McGavin (Villain)

Grade- Double Pistol

Obvious 1.1 villain. No surprise to see Shooter come off the board in the first round. The double pistol move is all time. His character has continued to live on twitter. Hey Ed, how about after this draft we go get some Red Lobster, my treat.

Pick 5: PFT, Bobby Boucher (Character)

Grade- Mama Says Good Pick

PFT Commenter shows no mercy. Bobby Boucher is an iconic fooseball character. A kind hearted soul with the untapped rage of a silverback. Loved Captain Insano. Had never seen a pair of boobies. And was unblockable.

Round 1: Happy, Billy and Shooter were first round locks for me. I was curious to see what the other two would be. The winners of this round, and I think every round to follow were the listeners.

ROUND 2

Pick 6: PFT, Butler Mr. Deeds (Side Character)

Grade- Very Sneaky Sir

I feel you are underestimating the sneakiness of this pick. Mr. Deeds doesnt crack the top tier Sandler movies, but it is still solid, and Emilo Lopez is a huge part of the movie. His obsession with feet is hysterical and the fire poker stab to the frostbite is an all time scene. I think PFT jumped the gun on this pick, but still a great pick.

Pick 7: Eddie, Veronica Vaughn- Billy Madison (Love Interest)

Grade- Want to Touch the Heiny

Veronica was my number one love interest. I know there is Aniston and Brooklyn Decker and Beil but those movies all stink. THAT VERONICA VAUGH. She was a 90s smoke. Billy got to live out the dream of getting with the hot teacher without all the legal ramifications.

Pick 8: WSD, Green Playbook- Waterboy (Prop)

Grade- Turnover

The playbook is a great part of the movie for sure, however this category is so deep and this wasn’t in the top 5 on my list. I love The Waterboy so I would very much want it represented on my team, but this wouldn’t be it. It’s the second best prop choice from the movie and it really is not 2nd round value. This is a disappointing 2nd round pick to follow up Happy at 3rd overall.

Pick 9: Chief, Glen Guglia- Wedding Singer (Villain)

Grade- Somebody Kill Him Please

Hate the guy. True piece of shit. I think there was a better villain available on the board though. I don’t think Glen’s name plays for voting and that’s only because the Wedding Singer is wildly underrated. Carl not having seen it is a testament to that. Glenn SUCKS though. Wedding Singer fans will appreciate how much he sucks.

Pick 10: Carl, Nazo- Big Daddy Delivery Guy (Side Character)

Grade- YOU TAKE ALL THE EASY ONES

Oh man this pick could win Carl the draft. When I was brainstorming side characters before listening Nazo didn’t even pop into my brain. He may be the perfect piece to draft from this movie to get Big Daddy represented on the squad. All of his lines are gold. His accent is ridiculous. What a start to Carls first wrap around.

Round 2: I fuckin love this draft.

Round 3

Pick 11: Carl, Virginia Venit- Happy Gilmore (Love Interest)

Grade- Happy Place

Veronica Vaugh only gets the nod and I think its because the name is just slightly better. The Virginia Venit happy places scenes are ingrained into my memory. She fought tooth and nail for Happy to stay on the tour. She saw right through Shooter. She poured a pitcher of beer over her breastesses. The ⅔ wrap around for Carl has him in an incredible spot after 3 picks.

Pick 12: Chief, Sonny Kaufax (Character)

Grade- Hooters

Chief is putting together a great draft. But it’s going to be great and under appreciated. Sonny is a phenomenal Sandler character. He is different from other characters, tugs at the heart strings more but is also absolutely hysterical. He is most definitely in my top 5 Sandler characters and if Chief doesn’t get him here is left with going back into to Wedding Singer and I think diversity is important in this draft.

Pick 13: WSD, Eric Gordon (Villain)

Grade- Miss Lippy’s Car Is Green

Eric was my 2nd villain behind Shooter. He had such a hatred for Billy and was such a conniving prick that you could not hate him. He was a wet blanket at all the graduation parties. He was mean to the janitor. Literally was going to shoot Billy before letting Billy get his high school diploma. Eric sucked.

Pick 14: Eddie, Hockey Stick Putter (Prop)

Grade- Eddie Learned How to Draft

Eddie is doubling up on Happy Gilmore here, but it’s a strong 2. The hockey stick putter was not only essential to Happys short game, but it was so damn cool. Hockey player playing golf and putting with a hockey stick. That’s badass.

Pick 15: PFT, Julia Sullivan- Wedding Singer (Love Interest)

Grade- I Wanna Grow Old With You

Young Drew. Wanted to bring her home to mom. Couldn’t stand that she was with Guy who didn’t appreciate her one bit. There were two top Love Interests on the Board, a trash one and a potato sack one, I would have guessed PFT went with the girl from the bayou with a gap tooth, but when you zig, PFT zags.

Round 3: Carl, Chief and Eddie are pulling ahead for getting my vote. PFT is close behind, and Daves early play book draft pick has him with the weakest of the bunch. AGAIN, I still love each person’s draft.

Round 4

Pick 16: PFT, Scuba Steve Action Figure (Prop)

Grade- Mr. Steal Your Girl

Scuba Steve got a kiss from Layla before Sonny did. He was the only reason Frankenstein got in the bath. You’re lying if at some point growing up you didn’t want to be in the Scuba Squad.

Pick 17: Eddie, Robbie Heart (Character)

Grade- Meatball

Robbie was maybe Sandler’s most wholesome character. Straight up a great guy. Crushed it at weddings, came home and taught Rosie piano lessons. Loved passionately. Getting a quality character like his in the 4th is big for Ed, I just don’t know if Wedding Singer picks are going to get the rightful love.

Pick 18: WSD, Farmer Fran- The Waterboy (Side Characters)

Grade- Weh Li Ta Dra Anudder Dai

Every scene with Farmer Fran is laugh out loud funny. Always hammered. His marble mouthed talking. The fact he was actually an assistant coach. All make for an incredible character. I don’t think the prop and side character from Waterboy is going to get Dave a win though.

Pick 19: Chief, Mr. Larson- Happy Gilmore (Side Character)

Grade- And Ill See You, On The Poll

Very memorable Sandler side character. Just an absolute Ogre of a man. Him being the villain of the villain makes him even better. I don’t know if Happy wins without Mr. Larson being in his corner. And that is saying something about a man who took a nail to the skull from Happy. Chief keeps on rolling through this draft.

Pick 20: Carl, Glacier Water- The Waterboy (Prop)

Grade- High Quality

This was on my list of props. Thought it was unique enough to fall and save a solid prop until late rounds and I’m guessing that was Carl’s train of thought as whale. Get Waterboy on the graphic. Carl knows whats he doing.

Round 4: Its dealers choice. There are no bad picks on the board. I wish this draft was going 10 rounds.

Round 5

Pick 21: Carl, Hal L. Orderly- Happy Gilmore (Villain)

Grade- Warm Glass of Milk

Unreal value here. Shooter is the number 1 villain in the movie for sure, but saving a villain for round 5 and snagging Ben Stiller’s character here is amazing strategy. I don’t think Glen or Eric compare to Shooter so waiting out villain until 5th round and getting this value could put Carl over the top here.

Pick 22: Chief, Donna Newman- Click (Love Interest)

Grade- Almost Made It

Kate Beckinsale in my gal. I have long been on record of being a Kate Beckinsale stan. She is on my all time Hollywood hot list. I love her. She was not on the list here though because Click just doesn’t move the needle much. There are two clear love interests on the board left. Chief had an awesome draft. Vicky or Layla gives Chief a real shot. Donna doesn’t. Vicky is absolutely not a Chief girl though so it is not surprising he couldn’t draft her/doesnt like her.

Pick 23: WSD, Alex McDonough — Chuck and Larry (Love Interest)

Grade- Horny Pick

The bra and panties scene is LEGENDARY. I will give that to Dave. But if he is trying to win this draft Alex was not the pick here. Just like Chief he had two clearly better choices in terms of Sandler characters. Aside from that scene I do not remember her character much at all. Vicky and Layla getting left off the board is a slip up.

Pick 24: Eddie, Bus Driver- Billy Madison (Side Character)

Grade- GOOD GREAT GRAND WONDERFUL

The rage in which Chris Farley acts with during the scenes he is in is amazing. Face beat red, neck popping, sweating. He was the perfect actor to play that part and Eddie closed out his draft with a monster 5th round pick. Eddie, Carl and Chief are about to GET. IT. ON. in the polls.

Pick 25(Mr. Irrelevant): PFT, The O’Doyles (Villain)

Grade- O’Doyle Rules

Just an amazing Mr. Irrelevant. Will go down as one of the best MI’s in draft history. It’s pretty funny there are 2 great villains choices from a movie about an adult trying to pass elementary school but both are awesome picks. The O’doyles were the epitome of a white trash family and they plagued Billy grade by grade. The pudding dump scene. Chanting Odolye rules as they fly off a cliff. PFT needed this pick to round out his roster.

WHAT. A. DRAFT. That was just as fun to recap as it was to listen to. I have no idea whether I’m voting for Eddie or Carl. It is not slight to Chief or PFT either. Like I said from the jump, every team was going to be stacked. I do think WSD finds himself off the graphic because of his early prop and his love interest. Love Interest is also what dropped Chief from potentially getting my vote. I think the order after the poll is tallied up is going to go Eddie, Carl, PFT, Chief but all separated by the slimmest of margins.
