Tonight kicked off the inaugural Dozen Trivia Tournament and the first match of the tournament was Team Ziti v. The Uptown Balls. The volatile Uptown Balls, an unorthodox trio of Smitty, Glenny Balls and Tommy Smokes, stepped into the Dozen Trivia set, looked Dave Portnoy in the face, and sent Team Ziti packing.

DISCLAIMER: El Pres was full on noodle brain. Playing absolute hero ball by simply just mustering the strength to show up for his team. First guy to ever play trivia with out a brain.

Ziti came out boiling. Clem knew they needed to hold serve in round 1 after Balls lead off with a correct MLS answer so he immediately went to the phone of friend and called Reags, who calmly walked on set and got the San Jose Earthquake for Ziti. Balls and Ziti then went back and forth both getting their celebrity mash up right to bring the score to 2–2. The third round category was college basketball and Portnoy confidently wants Ziti to double. Balls miss their question but Ziti was unable to steal, on account of the noodle I assume. However, on Ziti’s question, Pres has a late pull of the Pittsburgh Panthers and Ziti grabs 2 points on the double to take a 4–2 lead.

After Rone hummed a beautiful rendition of it, Balls gets Lupe Fiascos Show Goes On to keep the pressure on Ziti, but Clem answers with a Daniel Powter call that comes from being batter Mets fan. The next category up was MTV, Balls clearly didn’t know the answer to their question and were shook that Ed clearly did. Ball miss. Ed steals. Ziti follows up with a correct answer and extend their lead to 7–3. They look they are in control and confident until the biggest moment of the match. Dave says “We’re killing them” and Ed replies “Yeah, but we choke.” MASSIVE foreshadowing for what was to come next.

Next category was countries on the map, something Tommy considers himself an expert at, so Ball use their double. Tommy easily gets Balls a point then steals a point after a Ziti miss to land 3 points and bring the game back to 7–6. Pres questions the integrity of the category.

Balls followed up their 3 points with 2 more in the bonus round after Ziti went 4/5 and Ball went a perfect 5/5. 5 unanswered points and now a 8–7 lead for the balls.

DISCLAIMER: El Pres was literally blinded before the bonus round. Eye balls probably on fire from the light shined on him. No telling when he was able to recover.

From here on out, the wheels fell off for Ziti. Balls answers their round 7 MLB question correct and then steals Zitis point as well. Clem and Ed had the correct two Rangers but Portnoy was sure on of the answers was Juan Gon, on account of him having his rookie cards. Its now 10–7 balls and a 7–0 run. Deja Vu in round 8 and Balls answers correctly and steals again. 12–7 and it is getting ugly now. Ziti is getting Tea Bagged. Balls extends there lead by yet another point to lead of round 9 and its a gigantic 10–0 run by the Balls since Pres said “We’re killing them” and Ziti is running out of points.

At 13–7 to start off round 10, Ziti needed to get all 6 points to send it to overtime. They were able to steal a Balls miss, but were unable to answer their own question, and that was for the fork through the heart of Ziti. The Uptown Balls move on from the play in game and fifth seeded The Experts await them next round. Ziti had a tumultuous start to the tournament after dropping original team member Rico Bosco for Portnoy just days before the tournament. Rico now joins a tournament favorite Team Minihan, and many questions are stirring if Rico went ring chasing.

The Dozen Tournament is off to an exciting start and next up is Spittin Chiclets v. Generation XYZ tomorrow, May 11th, at 7pm. Follow @scotchb on twitter for post match analysis of all 12 matches of the dozen trivia.
